Profil Maxim Wuyts

Maxim is an associate in the Brussels office of the firm and a member of the tax practice group. 

He focuses on Belgian and international tax advisory, transactional and litigation work.

He provides tax advice regarding high-profile corporate and financial transactions (including capital markets and real estate transactions), complex corporate restructurings, transfer pricing matters as well as the structuring of incentive compensation plans. Maxim also advises on the tax aspects of specific businesses or products offered by clients.

In addition, Maxim has obtained a strong track record in assisting and representing clients in tax proceedings before the national and international courts, as well as in negotiations with the tax authorities.

He speaks Dutch, English and French.

Mandate

  • Advising a range of prominent diamond companies on the tax aspects and structuring of the securitisation of their diamond inventory and/or receivables.
  • Advising a major Belgian entertainment company on negotiations with the Special Tax Inspectorate.
  • Representing Luminus/EDF Belgium in proceedings before the European Court of Justice, the Belgian Constitutional Court and the lower Belgian courts against the "windfall profits tax" for electricity producers.
  • Representing Telenet in proceedings against the Belgian tax authorities regarding certain VAT aspects of customer invoices.
  • Advising House of HR group in respect of the acquisition by Bain Capital of a majority participation in the House of HR group from the existing shareholders.
  • Representing the Belgian Government in various proceedings before the Belgian Constitutional Court regarding challenged tax legislation.
  • Advising an international shipping company on the application of tax incentives for the shipping industry as well as on its challenge of a situation of international double taxation.
  • Representing Plopsa in negotiations and judicial proceedings regarding certain VAT aspects of some of its services, as well as in Council of State proceedings against a specific municipal tax.
  • Advising the controlling shareholder of a listed Belgian company on the simplification of its shareholding structure. 
  • Representing BNP Paribas Fortis in proceedings before the Belgian Supreme Court.
