Profil Domen Tursic

Domen is an associate in Freshfields’ international arbitration group based in our Frankfurt office.

He specialises in arbitration (both investment and commercial) and public international law. Domen advises and represents corporations and sovereign States in a variety of sectors, including infrastructure, renewable energy, mining and financial services.

Prior to joining the firm, Domen taught international law at the University of Ljubljana.

Domen is a Slovenian lawyer and holds an LL.M. from the University of Cambridge. He speaks English, Slovenian, Croatian and Serbian.

Mandate

  • Acting for an Eastern European State in an ICSID arbitration brought under multiple bilateral investment treaties due to the termination of a port concession.
  • Advising a global industrial client in assessing the compliance of its investment in an Asian country with public international law, in particular the requirement to seek free, prior and informed consent from indigenous peoples.
  • Advising a leading European renewable energy company on the development of a renewable energy project in an internationally disputed territory and its compliance with public international law (including the right to self determination).
  • Advising a European development bank regarding its financing contracts governed by public international law.
  • Advising an international organisation concerning bank guarantees governed by public international law.
  • Advising a major financial institution in relation to certain human rights implications of loan agreements and potential proceedings before the European Court of Human Rights.
