Profil Lauren Kaplin
As counsel in Freshfields’ litigation group, Lauren represents global clients at all stages of high-stakes commercial and antitrust litigation. She advises clients on effective strategy for managing disputes with multiple jurisdictional fronts, and also has experience representing clients in internal, regulatory, and criminal investigations into allegations of corruption, fraud, market manipulation, and consumer protection violations.
Lauren's pro bono work includes representing a survivor of domestic violence obtain legal fees from her abuser, obtaining status in the US for a survivor of labor trafficking and reuniting her with her son (whom she had not seen in 10 years), representing an indigent plaintiff in an action against the NYPD for claims of excessive force, and representing a national human rights organization and national policy research institute submitting amicus briefs to various US circuit courts and the US Supreme Court.
Mandate
- Representing Google in defending antitrust claims brought by DOJ, State AGs, and private plaintiffs based on Google's advertising technology;
- Representing Cengage in successful dismissal of multidistrict litigation alleging anticompetitive conduct in connection with digital course material access;
- Representing PepsiCo in commercial dispute with certain bottlers;
- Representing former board members of Breeze-Eastern Corporation in successful dismissal of suit following the acquisition of the company;
- Representing European manufacturing company bringing affirmative litigation to recover stolen technology, leading to successful settlement in related arbitration proceeding;
- Advising a Chinese human resources company in navigating multiple applications under 28 U.S.C. § 1782 seeking U.S.-style discovery in appraisal proceeding in the Grand Court of the Cayman Islands;
- Advising a global retailer in a whistle-blower investigation related to consumer protection and antitrust allegations;
- Successfully resolving without penalty a DOJ inquiry into allegations of bribery by a multinational hospitality company in connection with government contracts in Latin America; and
- Defending one of the world’s largest banks in investigations by the Department of Justice and other regulators around the world into alleged manipulation and collusion in the precious metals markets.

- Admitted to practice in the State of New York, the US District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the District of Columbia, and the Supreme Court of the United States.
