Profil Toby Halford

Toby is a senior associate in our global transactions group based in London.

He has experience advising clients across a variety of sectors on a mixture of private M&A, public M&A and equity capital markets transactions. Toby also advises both listed and unlisted companies on corporate governance matters.

Toby trained at Freshfields and was previously seconded to Freshfields’ Hong Kong office.

Mandate

Advising:

  • Amanda Staveley, her investment vehicle PCP Capital Partners, and a consortium led by the Public Investment Fund on the acquisition of Newcastle United Football Club.
  • Various English Premier League football clubs on a range of corporate and regulatory matters.
  • Mumtalakat, the sovereign wealth fund of the Kingdom of Bahrain, on the successful reorganisation of McLaren, the global luxury automotive and elite motorsports group.
  • DAZN, a leading global sports platform, on various mandates including its purchase of Eleven Sports Network Limited, a global sports media business, from Aser Ventures, and its disposal of the Perform Content business to Vistra Capital Partners, following a 30+ jurisdiction carve-out.
  • Entain, one of the world’s largest sports betting and gaming groups, on the acquisition of Angstrom Sports, a specialist provider of next generation sports modelling, forecasting and data analytics.
  • Compass Group on a cashbox placing to institutional investors alongside an offer to retail investors to raise approximately £2 billion, as well as Aston Martin Lagonda, Mitchells & Butlers, Auto Trader and HSS Hire on secondary capital raises undertaken by each.
  • General Dynamics Corporation on the sale of its General Dynamics Mission Systems – Italy division to Maticmind S.p.A., a CVC portfolio company.
  • JAB on its acquisition of Pret A Manger from Bridgepoint and other minority shareholders.
  • Comcast on its £30bn acquisition of Sky.
  • Michelin on its £1.2bn recommended take-private of London-listed Fenner plc.
  • A consortium comprising FountainVest Partners and ANTA Sports on the acquisition of Helsinki-listed, Amer Sports for EUR4.6bn.
