Profil Clara Bianchi Ferran

Clara Bianchi Ferran is an associate in our International Arbitration Group.

Avocate à la Cour, she is based in the Paris office and specializes in international arbitration and arbitration-related litigation.

She has experience in both commercial and investment arbitration under a variety of rules (ICC, UNCITRAL, ICSID, ICSID AF, LCIA). Her caseload spans a range of industry sectors, including oil and gas, banking and financial services, and construction. She is a member of the Latin American Practice group and of the Global Projects Disputes Practice (GPDP) group.

Prior to joining Freshfields, Clara acquired experience in several leading law firms in Paris and at the International Commercial Chamber of the Paris Court of Appeals where she worked on a number of setting-aside proceedings.

Clara holds a Master 2 degree in Private International Law and International Commercial Law from Université Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne (first of the class). She has also taught Private International Law for two years as a teaching assistant to Master 1 students in the Sorbonne Law School.

Clara advocates in English, French, Portuguese and Spanish. 

 

Mandate

Representing Rusoro Mining Ltd in setting-aside proceedings before the Paris Court of Appeals of an ICSID AF award regarding the expropriation of gold mining investments by Venezuela. The Paris Court of Appeal entirely rejected Venezuela's application and granted exequatur of the USD 1.6 billion award.

Representing a major Russian energy company in an arbitration arising out of the construction of a power plant in Latin America.

Representing a Middle East sovereign state in ICSID annulment proceedings of an award regarding an investment in the State’s largest liquefied natural gas plant.

Representing a European sovereign state in an ICC arbitration relating to an investment in a bank.

Representing a European state entity in an UNCITRAL arbitration relating to an investment in a bank.

Representing a CIS sovereign State in setting-aside proceedings before the Paris Court of Appeals of an UNCITRAL award regarding the taking of a refinery.
