Freshfields appoints new Hong Kong office managing partner
International law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer today announced the appointment of Kay Ian Ng as Hong Kong office managing partner. Kay Ian takes over from Clive Rough, who has held the role for six years, and is retiring at the end of April.
Kay Ian is global co-head of the Capital Markets Group at the firm. His practice focuses on securities offerings, mergers & acquisitions, corporate advisory matters and regulatory compliance in Hong Kong, greater China and the South-East Asia regions.
Last year Kay Ian led on a number of important deals. These included three of the top five listings on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, namely Metallurgical Corporation of China Ltd, China Minsheng Banking Corp., Ltd. and China Pacific Insurance. He also advised OCBC Bank on its US$1.46bn acquisition of ING Asia Private Bank from ING Bank, and Air China on its US$825 million acquisition of an additional 12.5 percent stake in Cathay Pacific from CITIC Pacific.

Kay Ian Ng
Kay Ian Ng is a partner in the Hong Kong office of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and is global co-head of the Capital Markets Group. He holds a first-class honours degree in law from Cambridge University. Having trained with a leading City firm in London, he has worked in London, Hong Kong, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Kay Ian is qualified to practice law in England and Wales, Hong Kong and Malaysia, and is a member of the Hong Kong Law Society’s Company and Financial Law Committee.
